RANT: I’ve been really struggling finding sauces that are wholesome and plant based!!!! Yes, there are some at the grocery store but the good ones are literally robbery. I can’t deal with it anymore!

SOLUTION: Making my own damn sauce this week! 🙂 I’ve been craving some good teriyaki sauce that doesn’t break the bank and that isn’t going to make me break out from all the processed oils and additives. Here’s to the BEST homemade teriyaki sauce that is 100% plant based and gluten free! YAY!

Teriyaki Stir Fry w/ Homemade Sauce

I searched and searched for a good teriyaki recipe that didn’t include honey or soy sauce, but found nothing. Soy sauce naturally contains gluten because of how it’s processed. There are many gluten free substitutes for soy sauce out there, but Bragg’s Liquid Aminos is the best alternative I have found so far!

Homemade Teriyaki Sauce

Plant Based Teriyaki Stir Fry

This plant based stir fry is everything you need in life! Seriously if I could eat this every night I would. I think it’s the homemade sauce that really tops off it’s perfection. Oh yeah and also the sticky jasmine rice; jasmine rice is also perfection.

I’m really excited about all the colorful veggies that I was able to pack into this dish. Most of the time stir fry turns out slightly brown with little hints of green, not this one! It’s so colorful and that makes me happy!

Plant Based Teriyaki Stir Fry

Broccoli, carrots, red bell pepper, green onions, and to top it off, edamame! The edamame gives this meal a power kick due to the plant based protein found in edamame. You can find edamame that is out of the shell in the freezer section by the other frozen veggies.

Since most of the ingredients are fresh, you’ll need to wash them to make sure there are no leftover pesticides or icky stuff from transportation. I use the Honest Company Fruit & Veggie Wash.

Get the rice cooking right away so that it’s fresh, but also cooled off a bit when the rest of the veggie mix is cooked. After you’ve washed the produce, start shopping and dicing! Then add all of the veggies into the hot wok with a splash of vegetable broth to sauté. Cook until the veggies are soft, but not mushy.

Add the seasonings & teriyaki sauce and mix it well to coat all the veggies in that amazing goodness! Get out your meal prep containers and distribute the rice and veggies evenly between 5 servings. Voala! You’re done! Enjoy this meal as an easy prepped lunch or dinner throughout the week or make it fresh for a group!

Plant Based Teriyaki Stir Fry

  • 1 Cup (dry) jasmine rice
  • 12 oz package frozen shelled edamame
  • 6 small sweet red peppers, chopped
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 small head broccoli, chopped
  • 1 Cup carrots, shredded
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tsp ground ginger
  • salt & pepper to taste
  • 4 stalks chopped green onion, to top
  • sprinkle of sesame seeds, to top
  • few splashes vegetable broth
  • a few dollops Homemade Teriyaki Sauce


  1. Cook the rice according to the package. Wash all produce well and chop to your desired sizes.

  2. Add all the chopped veggies and edamame to a hot wok with a splash of vegetable broth. Sauté for about 5 minutes or until the veggies are soft (make sure to not over cook)

  3. Add the spices and teriyaki sauce to the veggies mix and mix well until distributed evenly.

  4. Serve or potion each dish by starting with a scoop of rice and topping with the teriyaki veggies mix. Enjoy!
