Vegan Apple Pie Cinnamon Rolls
I’m not gonna lie to you, these are Cinnabon quality! I’ve always had a sweet tooth, especially for cinnamon rolls, and oh my gerd these hit the spot!

Perfect Vegan Cinnamon Rolls

The perfect way to get rich and fluffy cinnamon rolls is one thing (well actually 2 things…but one of them is obvious).

One: Earth’s Balance Butter! This is the best vegan butter that I’ve ever used and the buttery sticks are perfect for baking.

Two: Make sure that your dry active yeast is fresh and NOT expired! This is very important. When I was testing this recipe, I first used some expired yeast and they did not turn out… like at all.
Super bummer, but luckily there’s things thing called Amazon Prime Now (yes, I ordered tiny yeast packets off Prime Now and paid way too much for them but it was so worth not having to pause all vegan food photoshoot day or put on pants)

Apple Pie Filling

The filling is what makes the cinnamon rolls taste just like apple pie. All you need is some cooked apples, coconut sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, a little more Earth’s Balance vegan butter and you’ve got yourself the perfect filling!

Since this recipe is super rich already, I recommend using green apples to bring in a little more tart flavor. Make sure to peel the apples before cooking them so the skin doesn’t stick around inside the cinnamon rolls.

Don’t be surprised if you have this filling oozing out the sides of your rolls! Just use any leftovers on the top of the rolls once they are in the pan.

The Frosting

Making your own frosting is actually really easy and it makes for the perfect flavors! In this frosting you’ll need powdered sugar, coconut milk (full fat), vanilla extract, and more some of that Earth’s Balance vegan butter!

Use an electric mixer to whip this up if you have one. This is the one that I have from Kitchen Aid.

I’m gonna warn you, these are dangerously good and you’ll probably eat the whole batch in one weekend if you aren’t careful. I always have trouble knowing when to lay off the sweets when they are vegan!

My mind is like, “it’s vegan so that means it’s healthy!”

You'll Need...

  • 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) Active-Dry Yeast
  • 1/2 cup Warm Water
  • 1/4 cup Coconut Sugar
  • 1/2 tsp Pink Himalayan Salt
  • 4 tbsp Earth's Balance Vegan Butter (Sticks)
  • 1 1/2 cup + 1/4 cup Unbleached Wheat Flour
  • 1 cup Green Apples, cooked (2-3 apples)
  • 2 Tbsp Earth's Balance Vegan Butter (Sticks)
  • 1/4 cup Coconut Sugar
  • 1/2 tbsp Cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp Nutmeg
  • 4 tbsp Earth's Balance Vegan Butter (Sticks)
  • 3 tbsp Coconut Milk (full fat - can)
  • 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
  • 2 cups Powdered Sugar


  1. In a medium mixing bowl, mix the yeast and warm water together and set aside to activate for about 2-3 minutes or until a bubbly fizz forms on top
  2. Melt the butter and add the coconut sugar and salt - mix well
  3. Add the wet ingredients to the yeast / water mixture - mix well
  4. Slowly mix in the 1 1/2 cups flour into the wet ingredients until a dough ball forms & knead the dough for about 1-2 minutes - adding in the last 1/4 cup flours - until everythings is well combined
  5. Set the dough aside in a tightly covered container to rise & Preheat the oven to 375ºF
  6. Peel and cut the apples - cover in water in a medium sized pot and boil until soft (about 8 minutes)
  7. Remove from the heat and in the remaining FILLING ingredients - mix well while mashing the apples
  8. Once the dough has risen (about double in size) lightly dust a clean surface with flour and use a rolling pin to roll the dough out into a rectangular shape
  9. Spread the filling on top of the dough and carefully roll the dough into a log (the long way)
  10. Use a little coconut oil or extra vegan butter to grease a rectangular cake pan (mine is 7 x 11 in) and cut the roll into 6 equal peices - place the 6 rolls into the pan accordingly
  11. Bake for 18 minutes at 375ºF
  12. While the cinnamon rolls bake, clean up your work space and start prepping the frosting: whisk all the frosting ingredients together (use an electric mixer if you have one!)
  13. Remove the cinnamon rolls from the oven and allow them to cool for a few minutes before drizzling the frosting on top. Enjoy warm!

Additional Notes

These will stay fresh in a tightly sealed container in the fridge for up to 5 days (but they won't last that long). Reheat in the oven or microwave if desired!
